Director Shankar & Vikram’s “I” Movie Review:

The most expected film “I” has at last hit the silver overall the world. The movie has been made in three languages Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. Few months ago the audio of the movie in Tamil version was released in Chennai and few weeks ago Hindi and Telugu versions of the audio was released.

The film had been creating a hype since the movie had been directed by the Ace Technicians. Movie has the star cast of Vikram, Amy Jackson, Santhanam, Ramkumar (Son of Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan), Upen Patel, Suresh Gopi, Kamaraj (Mr.India) and Ojas Rajani. Movie has been directed by Shankar, Music scored by A.R.Rahman, Cinematography has been handled by P.C.Sreeram , Editing by Anthony. Lyrics have been penned by Kabilan and Karky. ‘Aascar’ V.Ravichandran has produced the movie in the banner of “Aascars Film Pvt. Ltd”.

“I”(in Tamil) means Masculine, Virile, beauty and many. Vikram is an aspiring Body builder aiming to achieve Mr.Tamilnadu and more in the field of body building. He keeps working out on his exercises. Amy Jackson the heroine of the film characterizes as a model. Vikram watching Amy Jackson on commercials get attracted to her and keeps purchasing all stuffs of the brands Amy Jackson had performed for. Vikram participates in Mr.Tamilnadu Body Builders competition and scores the first place by winning the title “Mr.Tamilnadu”. Suresh Gopi comes as a Doctor who takes care of Vikrams health and diet.

One day Vikram happens to meet Amy in a shooting where he goes there as a Gym Boy and takes few photographs with her and gives his address card to her. Upen Patel is a model and had been pairing with Amy Jackson for many commercials. In a period of time Amy Jackson gets irritated by the behavior of Upen, where he keeps her disturbing in her personal life.

One day when Amy refuses to fulfill the need of Upen, he expels her from a commercial and influences others not to consider Amy in any future advertisements. This makes Amy frustrated. Frustrated Amy meets her modeling coordinator and explains her about her issue with Upen. Later Amy recommends Vikram to the modeling coordinator and suggests her to utilize Vikram as her pair in her future advertisement projects. The same is being fulfilled and Vikram succeeds to be a top Model where the market of Upen goes down.

In one stage Vikram rejects to act for a soft drink commercial stating that the product consists of pesticides in it. G.Ramkumar the producer of the commercial gets wild on the reply given by Vikram. In the meantime Osma Jasmine tries to propose Vikram in the shoot and Vikram rejects the same. But the love between Vikram and Amy blooms later after Amy’s rejection in the initial stage. Angry Ramkumar, Osma and Upen join together and plan to spoil the career of Vikram.

One day Vikram feels of uneasiness and changes in his body condition and consults Suresh Gopi. After diagnosis, Suresh Gopi explains Vikram that he had been infected by a disease. Vikram later comes to know that he had been infected by a virus. Later Vikram wishes to avoid marrying Amy and plans for a car accident and creates news that Vikram is dead.
The climax of the story is you have to watch and see what really happened to Vikram, does Vikram survive and marry Amy Jackson.

Vikram’s efforts in the movie have to be very much appreciated. His acting specialty proves in all the getup’s he had performed. The most appreciable part on Vikram’s acting and efforts can be judged in his “Hunch Back” getup. Amy Jackson has performed well with her admirable expressions and glamorous appearance. Santhanam comes with his usual comedy performing as a Gym master. He is one who moves the first half of the movie with timing comedies. Powerstar Srinivasan has made a cameo. Ramkumar has performed very casual and his recent step in acting would surely raise him to a demand to perform many character roles in acting.

P.C.Sreeam’s camera plays a pivotal role in the movie. The green tone used in a water and green area is awesome. Shoots composed for commercial advertisements looks excellent with nice different colour tones. Close up shots of Vikram and Amy especially during both the noses touching together has been shot excellent. A.R.Rahman’s BGM has worked fine for the movie. Mersalaitaen song has been composed nice. V.Srinivas & M.Mohan’s VFX explains very well about their efforts in bringing out the movie to an international level. Especially the bike scene where Vikram rides a bike and the changeover of the bike to Amy has been made excellent without any error in the VFX. Choreographers Bosco-Ceasar and Shobi have done their work fine. Anal Arasu and Peter Ming (China)have done good choreography on the stunt sequences. Movie plays for 3 hours and 9 minutes which is a little bit difficult for the audiences to sit for such a long time.

But Shankar’s efforts have made the audiences to bear the pain of duration and sit continuously for the 189 minutes. It would have been better, if Shankar had made some more efforts on the screenplay and made the film a little shorter. Movie clearly makes the audience understand that it had been shot quiet lengthier. Editor Anthony’s work shows the efforts he had taken to cut most of the unwanted scenes to bring down to the maximum lesser length of 189 minutes. Director Shankar should make sure that he does not consider the length of the film is longer and make any cuts in the movie. Trimming any scene from the movie would undoubtedly spoil the essence of the movie. Let the movie have its length of 189 minutes and kept untrimmed.

Overall the movie can be watched along with family. Audience should not compare logics and do appreciate the efforts taken by director Shankar, Vikram, P.C.Sreeram and others for taking the technology of an Indian movie to an international standard. “I” would impress everyone’s flavour.
