NDA Nominates Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as Vice Presidential Candidate

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Sunday announced Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the upcoming Vice Presidential election, just weeks after Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation from the post.

The election is scheduled for September 9, with August 22 set as the last date for filing nominations.

The decision came after a meeting of the BJP parliamentary board on Sunday, attended by senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president JP Nadda, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The Vice Presidential post fell vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned last month on the first day of the monsoon session, citing health reasons in his resignation letter addressed to the President of India. The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, and the last date of nomination is August 22.

The BJP parliamentary board met on Sunday to finalise the name of the candidate for the election. Several party stalwarts, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, national president JP Nadda and home minister Amit Shah, attended the meeting.

Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned as the Vice President last month on the first day of the monsoon session, citing health reasons in a letter to the President of India.
