Is Super Star Rajni’s “Lingaa” a loss, is he responsible in any way? Distributors reply “No”!

Today during the press meet of Film Distributor Singaravadivelan of Trichy & Tanjore and other distributor in regard to “Lingaa” business issue stated he and many other distributors incurred loss in distributing and exhibiting the movie.

He also explained that in regard to discuss about the loss in the film, they had contacted the Producer ‘Rockline’ Venkatesh, EROS International and TN Theatrical rights owner Vendhar Movies. Since they were not able to get a solution from the three, they had met Satyanarayana at Rajni’s Ragavendra Kalyana Mandapam and had explained him about the loss incurred in “Lingaa” and improper response from the Producer and other two mentioned earlier. He said that they have submitted their grievance in a letter addressed to Rajnikanth via Satyanarayana.

He added that there had been no reply from the earlier mentioned three and Rajnikanth, they had planned for a hunger strike on Jan 10, 2015. The permission was denied by CHENNAI City Police and they had approached the Hon’ble Court of Justice and the Police was directed by the Court to permit them for a hunger strike on the same date requested.

When our reporter questioned Singaravadivelan and others seated, that audiences on oral conversations and social website users say that “Lingaa” tickets were sold for Rs. 300, 500, 1000 and more. Now you complain that the movie had incurred loss to them. They replied that it was only on the first day and became normal in the second day. The reply given by them is certainly false.

As far as we enquired, we have gathered information’s that the same crowd continued for at least a week. Later it had reduced and not failed with poor audience. As this is the case, Singaravadivelan says that he had paid Rs. 8 crores to Vendhar movies as Non-Returnable Advance and would be paid a profit commission if 10%. This clearly explains that the distributors would have all paid a Non-Returnable Advance and eligible for the same 10% profit commission of their respective distribution area. I don’t understand how Singaravadivelan blindly says that he incurred a loss of Rs.5.5 crores when the movie fetched a decent collection at least a weeks’ time. Apart from this Singaravadivelan accepts that the amount had been paid as Non-Returnable Advance and it clearly proves that they demand which is against what has been agreed initially.

Our reporter questioned Singaravadivelan and others, who is responsible to compensate your losses if any? They replied that it is the producer to do. Reporter immediately intervened, if that is so what is the necessity of Rajnikanth being involved in this issue? Singaravadivelan replied that we are not requesting Rajnikanth to repay their losses. It is only requesting Rajnikanth to intervene in this issue and find a solution for it. Reporter immediately asked them if that is the case, what the necessity for having Hunger Fast. Altogether replied that it was only to create awareness among the public and to initiate Rajnikanth to intervene and find a solution for their issue.

After the press meet was over, Singaravadivelan was speaking to few media persons answering their questions. A reporter asked him whether any organisations are rendering their support and participating in the Hunger Strike. He replied that few Tamil organisations have confirmed him to render their support. He added that we would be projecting that a Kanadiga producer had made the film “Lingaa” in Tamil and have swindled the whole money and has ran away to Karnataka. This oral statement given a Film Distributor Singaravadivelan should not be encouraged by any of the Tamil organisations, since this issue is clearly related to a business where profit and loss only should be spoken and not about any Religion, Caste or Language. This type of propaganda would lead the state of Tamil Nadu and other language speaking states to distract peace and create worst Law and Order situation.
