There were reports earlier today speculating that actor Yogi Babu was involved in a car accident near Walajah, Vellore. However, Yogi Babu has since clarified that these reports are false. Speaking to our team, he confirmed that he was not in the vehicle that met with the accident. Instead, the car belonged to the movie crew and had crashed into a barricade near the tollgate.
Supporting Yogi Babu’s statement, actor and producer Udhaya released a video explaining that he, Yogi Babu, and actor Ajmal were traveling in a different vehicle. The car that met with the accident was carrying their assistants and reportedly suffered a tyre puncture. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and all passengers escaped uninjured.
During our investigation into the accident, we found that the vehicle involved bore the registration number UP 32 GT 1800. The car is registered under the name Varun Vikram Singh in Lucknow.
Further examination of its records revealed multiple past traffic violations, including:
1. Illegal Parking – Hazratganj Crossing Chauraha, Lalbagh (May 9, 2019)
2. Speeding Violation – Kanpur (July 30, 2020)
3. Speeding Over the Limit – Yamuna Expressway (April 9, 2023)
These repeated violations suggest a pattern of habitual traffic offenses.
Both Yogi Babu and Udhaya mentioned that the vehicle was arranged by the production company to transport crew members. However, the car in question was reportedly a white-board (non-commercial) vehicle, which is legally meant for private use only.
This raises concerns about insurance coverage in case of accidents. If any casualties had occurred, claiming insurance for the passengers could have been problematic. Had the vehicle been a legally registered transport vehicle, insurance claims for potential injuries or losses would have been more straightforward.
This incident highlights the importance of film production companies verifying the legal status and driving records of the vehicles and drivers they hire. Ensuring that all transport vehicles are properly registered and have clean traffic records is crucial for the safety of their cast and crew.
