A 37-year-old woman was fatally stabbed by her estranged husband in a public attack near the Medavakkam Kootroad bus stop on Saturday night. The victim, identified as Jothi, had separated from the accused, Manikandan (42), seven years ago.
Following their separation, Jothi began a relationship with Krishnamoorthy (38), a relative of Manikandan. This reportedly angered Manikandan, who continued to harass Jothi, demanding she reconcile with him.
The tragic incident unfolded after Manikandan contacted Jothi, claiming he had returned from a pilgrimage and wished to offer her “Prasadham.” A meeting was arranged, but an argument ensued, leading to a physical altercation.
Later that evening, Jothi and Krishnamoorthy confronted Manikandan. A heated argument escalated, and Manikandan, armed with a knife, fatally stabbed Jothi multiple times. He also injured Krishnamoorthy.
Bystanders intervened, apprehending Manikandan and alerting the police. Jothi was pronounced dead at the hospital, while Krishnamoorthy is currently receiving treatment.
Medavakkam Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
