Protests Erupt Over Seeman’s Controversial Remarks About Periyar

In a controversy that has sparked widespread outrage, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) coordinator Seeman faces backlash for his incendiary comments about the revered Tamil social reformer Periyar.

Seeman recently alleged that Periyar made highly derogatory statements about women, claiming Periyar advised engaging in inappropriate acts involving family members during moments of arousal. This statement has been condemned as slanderous, with critics labeling it a baseless attack on Periyar’s legacy of advocating for women’s rights and social justice.

The Tamil Nadu Periyar Dravida Kazhagam (TNPDK) swiftly responded with protests outside Seeman’s residence. Demonstrators demanded proof of Seeman’s claims, asserting that such remarks are both offensive and unfounded. The protests led to several arrests as tensions escalated. To prevent further unrest, police have been deployed outside Seeman’s residence, ensuring heightened security.

Despite the backlash, Seeman is set to attend party programs in Puducherry today. Members of the Periyar organization have vowed to protest his visit, intensifying their demand for evidence to substantiate his statements.

TNPDK General Secretary Ramakrishnan addressed reporters, emphasizing the organization’s resolve:
“Seeman must provide proof of what he claimed Periyar said. Until he does so, we will not allow him to move freely. Our protests will follow him wherever he goes.”

This incident has further fueled debates about preserving the integrity of Tamil icons and protecting their legacies from misrepresentation. As the protests continue, questions about accountability in public discourse take center stage.
