Madras High Court dismisses Vijay’s plea against ₹1.5 crore Income Tax penalty in ‘Puli’ income disclosure case

The Madras High Court has dismissed a writ petition filed by actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay challenging a ₹1.5 crore penalty imposed by the Income Tax Department for alleged non-disclosure of additional income. Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy rejected the petition, which was filed in 2022, after reserving orders in the case on January 23, 2026.

The penalty pertains to an alleged failure to voluntarily disclose additional income of ₹15 crore until Income Tax officials conducted a search and seizure operation in September 2015 following the release of Vijay’s film ‘Puli’.

The court’s dismissal effectively upholds the penalty imposed by the department in connection with the income disclosure issue.
