On 12th August 2015, director of many family oriented Tamil films V.Sekar was arrested by the Tamilnadu Police. He had been charged with stealing and smuggling of valuable idols of Hindu Gods.  V.Sekar is well respected by both the general public and the whole of Tamil Film Industry, for his contribution on the movies directed by him related to family oriented subjects. It is said that V.Sekar had never earned any allegations against him and had been elected as the Treasurer of the Tamil Film Directors Association.

In this case one Thanalingam a Production Manager in Tamil film industry and Karunakaran working at the Government press had been arrested. Its is said that Police after enquiring the two had found out that director V.Sekar has also been involved in stealing the valuable idols from the Temples along with the two arrested earlier. Sources earlier said that V.Sekar had given his acceptance orally and in writing that he had involved himself in stealing and valuable idols from Temples.

In regard to it, Tamil Films Producers Council, Tamil Film Directors Association, Tamil Film Artistes Association and Film Employees Federation of India jointly addressed the media on the late hours of 13th August, with an urgent press meet. The SMS and WhatsApp message sent to the media persons by PRO mentioned as “(URGENT PRESS MEET)   Kindly come and attend today (13.8.15) producer’s counsil urgent press meet  Reg: film industry strike in FILM CHAMBERS at 8.30 pm. Thanks. BY Secratory ‘S  TFP COUNCIL.”.

Press meet was addressed by R.K.Selvamani, director and Secretary of Tamil Film Directors Association (TFDA). Selvamani stated that V.Sekar is an innocent person and had good respect by the audience and the film industry. He also added that he along with Vikraman, film director and President of TFDA had met V.Sekar today at Puzhal prison. R.K.Selvamani confirmed that V.Sekar had told them both that he has no connection with the group involved in stealing of the Hindu idols.  R.K.Selvamani while reading the drafted press release said that the news published in some media about V.Sekar’s acceptance in this case is false and V.Sekar had neither given oral nor written  acceptance to the police on the offences charged against him.

Along with Selvamani were Vikraman, Thanu, President of Tamil Film producers Council (TFPC), Shiva and Radhakrishnan Hon. secretaries of TFPC, Siva, President of FEFSI, noted directors P.Vasu and Cheran, PL.Thennappan, Ravi Maria and many others from the film industry.  After Selvamani read out the drafted press release, the whole crew walked out to avoid questions from the media.   Our reporter called Selvamani to stay and answer questions for the media. Selvamani replied that they did not want any complications to happen in rgatd to this case and hence winded up the press meet without any questions. On a question raised by us whether there was any vengeance by anyone against V.Sekar to involve him in this case. Selvamani replied that they were not aware about that and quickly moved away from the media meet.

It is a question mark, why an SMS was sent by a PRO unnecessarily that the press meet was regarding film industry strike and did not mention that the meet was in regard to V.Sekar’ arrest.
