The 23rd Convocation of Sathyabama University took place in Sathyabama University auditorium on 26th April 2014. Dr.Jeppiaar, Chancellor of Sathyabama University delivered the Inaugural address. Professor H.Devaraj, Vice Chairman, Univesity Grants Commission was the Chief Guest for the Convocation. Mr.Devaraj awarded the Honarary Doctractes to 3 personalities and Degrees to the New Graduands and delivered the Convocation Address.
Dr.K.Sivan, Project Director, GSLV, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram is an aeronautical engineering graduate of Madras Institute of Technology. He had embarked upon a highly distinguished career in aerospace. His success is a fine illustration of the transformation of a postgraduate from Indian Institute of Science into a tallest figure of rocket science in our country. The pre-eminent reason Sathyabama University states for the nomination of Sivan’s name is the scale of his outstanding achievements right from the period of his research in Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay to the present status as the Project Director, GSLV Project & Chief Controller, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.
Mr.Arur Das alias Jesudas is one of the leading Tamil Poets and a well known dialogue writer. “The art of writing is the art of discovery what you believe”. This statement is an embodiment in the life of legendary veteran scriptwriter “Kalaimamani” Aroor Das. Aroor Das has contributed in writing dialogues to more than 500 Tamil films. Aroor Das had written dialogues for the films of Sivaji Ganesan and MGR for more than a dozen to each. His dialogues played an important role for the success of film of those two legends. Aroor Das had recently penned dialogues for Vadivelu’s “Thennaliraman”.
Thiru.Mambalam M.K.S.Siva, is a renowned Nadaswara Vidhwan. He had earlier received “Kalaimamani” in 1995.
Along with the Honorary Doctorates, Sathyabama University awarded Ph.D to 85, UG degree to 1539 students and PG Degrees to 933 students. It is to be noted that 41% of the students had secured First class with distinction and 59% of the students have secured First class.
