Multiplexes lack provision of free drinking water for audiences:

Cinema Theaters and Multiplexes are places where people in huge would assemble to watch movies or plays. These Theaters and Multiplexes should have the basic amenities and safety measures like fire extinguishers, clean toilets & urinals, emergency exits and free drinking water. On a survey about the availability of free drinking water at few multiplexes in Chennai by our “Fast Messenger” news team we have found out that majority of the Multiplexes fail to proivde free drinking water for the audineces.

Sathyam Cinemas, Devi Theater Complex, Escape Cinemas, Fame National, PVR Cinemas and S2 Perambur, Albert Theater, Shanthi Theater, Kamala Cinemas are few of the theaters we were able to make a survey about the availability of free drinking water for the audiences. Out of these Multiplexes, Sathyam Cinemas, Devi Theater Complex, Escape Cinemas, Fame National, PVR Cinemas and S2 Perambur lack to provide free drinking water. Albert Theater,Shanthi Theater, Kamala Cinemas do provide free drinking water for the audiences.

While talking to a canteen staff of Sathyam Cinemas, we understood that the provision of free drinking water would affect the sales of priced packaged drinking water. And that is the reason free drinking water is not been provided in such Multiplexes.

Managements of Multiplexes should make themselves clear that all audiences who visit Multiplexes would not be able to purchase priced packaged drinking water. There are financially sound persons who avoid drinking packaged drinking water and prefer only to drink normally available water. As an example veteran cricketer Mr. Krishnamachari Srikanth while addressing in a book launch few months ago said that he use to drink any drinking water available and do not give importance for packaged drinking water alone. He also quoted the reason that drinking any available drinking water would help resistance and immunity of one’s body condition.

Ministry of Health (Both State & Central), Department of Municipal Administration, Consumer Forums and other respective departments should initiate necessary steps to recommend Theaters and Multiplexes to provide free drinking water for their audiences parallel to the priced packaged drinking water.

Lets wait and see whether Theaters and Multiplexes provide free drinking water for their audiences.
